Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network and Friends of the Rappahannock for a presentation with Maine Representative Bill Pluecker on PFAS and Biosolids.

Representative Bill Pluecker is an organic farmer and a leader in PFAS & Biosolids legislation in Maine. A brief presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Biosolids, the treated sewage sludge produced by wastewater treatment plants, are applied to farmland across the country. Farmers use biosolids because they’re cheaper than traditional fertilizer and are marketed as safe and sustainable. What farmers aren’t told is that biosolids can contain harmful levels of PFAS, a “Forever Chemical” that is toxic to humans and can migrate from soil into crops, rivers and well water.

During this presentation we will discuss how PFAS enter the environment, why biosolids are a growing concern nationwide, and what farmers, landowners, and residents have a right to know about biosolids and the “forever chemicals” in them.

This event is free and open to the public.
