“Keep Winter Cold” Polar Bear Plunge

February 21 @ 10:00 am 2:30 pm

Polar Bear Plunge

Due to the sewage spill that occurred on January 19th at Lock 10 on the Potomac River, 18 miles upriver from the plunge site, this event will now be a *splash* rather than a plunge! There will be tons of water balloons, water blasters, and ice buckets (using non-river water, of course!) to participate. If you have a conflict on February 21, we hope you will conduct a virtual plunge, jumping into a water body near you or conducting an ice bucket challenge. In other words, you can “plunge” anywhere and at a time of your choosing.

On February 21st, our team will be plunging into icy cold waters with fellow climate activists to help raise vital funds for Potomac Riverkeeper Network and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s (CCAN) critical climate campaigns in 2026.

10:00 – 11:00 AM

Arrive and check in at the Capital Canopy! We’ll have action tables, music, games, face painting, warm drinks, and yummy snacks.

11:00 – 11:40 AM

Pre-Plunge rally and costume contest. Sign up for the costume contest here!

11:40 – 11:50 AM

March to the Plunge point and get ready to plunge.

11:50 AM – 12:10 PM
PLUNGE TIME!

After plunging, you can change into warm clothes in our changing tents.

12:15 – 2:30 PM

Head back to the Capital Canopy for continued fun and celebration with your fellow Plungers! We’ll have pizza, a hot cocoa bar, a FREE beer from Denizens brewery (Plungers age 21+), games, and music!

We hope you’ll join us or donate to support us!
