Brent Walls, Upper Potomac Riverkeeper, knows pretty much everything there is to know about mapping. He has created the map below to show where there are active biosolid permits for Maryland and how many permits are issued for each county; this is an important tool because biosolids – sewage sludge – contain PFAS. Thus, we now have an easy-to-understand way to identify locations where PFAS is an issue and more importantly, to demonstrate that underserved communities are disproportionately impacted  by this health threat. We are concerned that active biosolids sites and many of the historical locations that have not been mapped may have levels of PFAS in the soils that could contaminate feed crops for animals and food crops for humans.

More data will be added to the map to highlight new Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Fish Consumption Advisories and levels found in public drinking water plants that have been tested by MDE for PFAS.
