Explorations with Your Riverkeeper: Harpers Ferry Walking Tour w/ Shenandoah Riverkeeper
April 19 @ 10:00 am
Join Shenandoah Riverkeeper Mark Frondorf for SRK’s first-ever, one-of-a-kind walking tour through historic Harpers Ferry — and Mark is bringing in serious firepower.
We’ll be joined by David Fox, who served for 30 years as the interpretive ranger at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. David doesn’t just know the history — he brings it to life. From John Brown’s raid to African American history, from the collision of natural and cultural forces to the powerful role the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers played in shaping our nation — this is storytelling at its best.
As we walk the cobblestone streets and narrow passageways, you’ll see how two rivers converging at a single point helped alter the course of American history.
And for those of us who may not be quite as spry as we once were navigating the river by canoe or kayak, this is your chance to experience the river’s story with both feet firmly on terra firma — safely removed from White Horse Rapids (known in George Washington’s day as The Spout, after he surveyed the Potomac following the French & Indian War).
We are intentionally limiting the size of this group out of respect for other visitors and the tight quarters of historic Harpers Ferry. Registration is capped, and online sign-up is limited to two slots per person.
If you’ve ever wanted to understand the intersection of rivers, rebellion, resilience, and revolution — this is your moment.
Harpers Ferry is known for uneven steps and historic (read: unpredictable) terrain. Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear. Once you register, we’ll send detailed information about parking and the required shuttle to the lower town. Definitely allow ample time for parking and taking the shuttle bus.
Spots will go quickly — don’t wait. Come walk history with us!
