SUMMARY:Water Wednesday: Sewage Spill of the Century
DESCRIPTION:Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) for an in-depth discussion on the catastrophic sewage spill that occurred on January 19 in Montgomery County\, Maryland. Potomac Riverkeeper Dean Naujoks will share the latest updates\, walk through PRKN’s rapid response efforts\, and explain what this spill means for the health of the Potomac River and downstream communities. \n\n\n\nMore than two weeks into this crisis\, the work is far from over. PRKN has been on the ground—collecting critical water quality data\, monitoring contamination levels\, and providing transparent\, science-based reporting to keep the public informed. The next phase is clear: demanding accountability and meaningful remediation to protect rivers that millions depend on for recreation\, wildlife habitat\, and drinking water. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWednesday\, February 11\, 202612 p.m. – 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nFREE Zoom Webinar \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:"Keep Winter Cold" Polar Bear Plunge
DESCRIPTION:EVENT UPDATE \n\n\n\nDue to the sewage spill that occurred on January 19th at Lock 10 on the Potomac River\, 18 miles upriver from the plunge site\, this event will now be a *splash* rather than a plunge! There will be tons of water balloons\, water blasters\, and ice buckets (using non-river water\, of course!) to participate. If you have a conflict on February 21\, we hope you will conduct a virtual plunge\, jumping into a water body near you or conducting an ice bucket challenge. In other words\, you can “plunge” anywhere and at a time of your choosing. \n\n\n\nOn February 21st\, our team will be plunging into icy cold waters with fellow climate activists to help raise vital funds for Potomac Riverkeeper Network and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s (CCAN) critical climate campaigns in 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n10:00 – 11:00 AM \n\n\n\n\n\nArrive and check in at the Capital Canopy! We’ll have action tables\, music\, games\, face painting\, warm drinks\, and yummy snacks. \n\n\n\n\n\n11:00 – 11:40 AM \n\n\n\n\n\nPre-Plunge rally and costume contest. Sign up for the costume contest here! \n\n\n\n\n\n11:40 – 11:50 AM \n\n\n\n\n\nMarch to the Plunge point and get ready to plunge. \n\n\n\n\n\n11:50 AM – 12:10 PMPLUNGE TIME! \n\n\n\n\n\nAfter plunging\, you can change into warm clothes in our changing tents. \n\n\n\n\n\n12:15 – 2:30 PM \n\n\n\n\n\nHead back to the Capital Canopy for continued fun and celebration with your fellow Plungers! We’ll have pizza\, a hot cocoa bar\, a FREE beer from Denizens brewery (Plungers age 21+)\, games\, and music! \n\n\n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll join us or donate to support us!\n\n\n\n\nJOIN OUR TEAM OR MAKE A DONATION
